Terry Brooker
Personal Trainer
Graduated in May 2022, with a STEM degree focussed on human biology and sports science from The Open University.
As a Level 4 Personal Trainer, I work with people of all ages and levels of health and fitness, I've discovered my passion is taking complicated scientific research and breaking it down into simple, doable steps.
Having a father who had Type 2 diabetes and understanding that this stems from developing metabolic syndrome, this is my speciality.
Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed by having 3 of 5 conditions below that occur together, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
Abdominal Obesity: A waist measurement of over 40 inches (men) and over 35 inches for women is commonly used as a threshold.
High Blood Pressure: Blood pressure readings of 130/85 mmHg or higher, or the use of medication to control high blood pressure.
High Blood Sugar Levels: Elevated fasting blood glucose levels of 100 mg/dL or higher, or a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.
High Triglycerides: Levels of triglycerides in the blood of 150 mg/dL or higher.
Low HDL Cholesterol: Low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, often referred to as "good" cholesterol. Typically, levels below 40 mg/dL for men and below 50 mg/dL for women.
Working within a team allows me to address these multiple interrelated issues, it's not just about exercise - but muscle is crucial metabolic tissue, particularly as we age - it's about transforming peoples entire approach to health and fitness.
